Ericsson Selects Arkeia Network Backup to Protect Critical Business Data

Ericsson is a world-leading provider of telecommunications equipment and related services to mobile and fixed network operators globally. Over 1,000 networks in more than 175 countries utilize Ericsson network equipment and 40 percent of all mobile calls are made through Ericsson systems. Ericsson is one of the few companies worldwide that can offer end-to-end solutions for all major mobile communication standards.

Ericsson’s testing department had grown accustomed to manually backing up individual machines. As a result, backup and recovery was a time-consuming task that led to the permanent assignment of dedicated personnel.

With an extremely heterogeneous environment, Ericsson needed a data protection solution that could support multiple platforms, including Unix, Linux, and Windows OS.

Ericsson had modest objectives for the replacement of this process. Their goals were to eliminate the per-machine backup process and establish a network backup solution, streamline and make uniform backup and restore procedures, reduce backup windows, and ensure ISO 27000 backup and crash recovery certification.

To achieve these objectives, Ericsson selected Arkeia Software for its professional backup and recovery solution. Major benefits became apparent immediately. They witnessed increased data availability and disaster recovery with reliable data protection solution. A consistent single solution was used across all computer platforms. Additionally, storage management and maintenance costs were reduced.

“Arkeia Network Backup was the only product that perfectly suited our very heterogeneous test network. The solution is technically appealing and the support from the Arkeia team is outstanding,” explained Gilbert Derus, Network Security Manager, Ericsson France.

In addition to the standard Arkeia Network Backup functionality, Ericsson also selected Arkeia’s functionality for Disk-to-Tape replication of backup sets. Data is first backed up on disk and then copied to tapes for external archiving.

Further, Ericsson elected to connect a tape drive directly to the backup server to increase the efficiency of the disaster recovery agent on the backup server. This arrangement provides an additional layer of security for protection of business-critical data.
